Event Details

Wind? Solar? Biomass? How can field and classroom activities benefit from the ever increasing awareness in our communities of other potential sources of energy? And how could one incorporate “location” (geospatial) knowledge, and software, data, and hardware tools into an educational project when discussing “green” technologies? GIS and remotely sensed imagery help discover and generate information in order to decide the best places for locating energy sources in relation to the community needs. This workshop will use the principles of remote sensing and GIS analysis, to familiarize participants with the GIS software environment of ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.3 and ERDAS’ Image Analysis and other extensions. The workshop will also identify data and information sources (particularly of aerial and satellite imagery) and analytical approaches for K-12 school projects.

Instructor:   Demetrio Zourarakis

Lunch will be provided.

This workshop will meet in Room 106A of the Business Building.

This workshop will be held on the Southwest Campus of Jefferson Community and Technical College.  The college is located at 1000 Community College Drive, Louisville, KY 40272.
